TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

FOR SUPERKROSS CUP CHALLENGE

4WD

Valid from 01.01.2010

1. GENERALITIES

1.1 Car

Car must be rigidly-closed non-convertible large-scale series production 4WD models.

1.2 Fuel

1.2.1 The fuel must be commercial petrol which comes from a service station pump, without any other additives.

1.2.2 The cars must use unleaded fuel only (maximum 0,013 g/l) complying with FIA Appendix J Art. 252-9.1. and 252-9.2.

1.2.3 Using any „racing petrol” is forbidden (Green Racing, Elf).

1.3 Minimum weights

The weight of the car is measured without the driver and with the fluids remaining at the moment at which the measurement is taken.

The weight will be according to the following table:

2. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Safety regulations and construction must comply with the FIA Appendix J, unless respective clauses in given conditions have been changed.

2.1 Safety cage

2.1.1 All requirements for materials, installation and documentation in accordance with the FIA Appendix J Art. 253 p.8.

2.1.2 Basic structure must be made according to one of the following designs: FIA Appendix J Art. 253-8.3.1 (Drawing 253-1, 253-2, 253-3)

2.1.3 Diagonal members: the cage must have two diagonal members on the main roll bar (Drawing 253-4 and 253-5 together or 253-7). Installation in accordance with the instructions p.8.3.2.1.1.

2.1.4 Doorbars: “X”-shaped on both sides (drawing 253-9). Installation in accordance with the instructions p.8.3.2.1.2.

2.1.5 Roof reinforcement: in accordance with the p.8.3.2.1.3 instructions (Drawings 253-12; 253-13 or 253-14). In the case of Drawing 253-12 only, one diagonal member only may be fitted but its front connection must be on the driver’s side.

2.1.6 Custom-made cages must have 4-mm check opening in the vertical part of the main roll bar.

2.2 Safety belts

2.2.1 The belts must be homologated by FIA. The homologation may be expired. Installation in accordance with FIA Appendix J Art. 253-6.2.

2.2.2 Belts must not be worn out or stretched out.

2.2.3 The belts must be replaced after every severe collision, and whenever the webbing is cut, frayed or weakened due to the actions of chemicals or sunlight.

2.3 Extinguishers – extinguishing systems

2.3.1 All cars must be fitted with at least one fire extinguisher (min. 2kg). It must be situated in the cockpit and it must be easily accessible for the driver.

2.3.2 All extinguishers must be adequately mounted. Only quick-release metal fastenings (two minimum), with metal straps, will be accepted.

2.3.3 Date the extinguisher must be checked, which must be no more than two years after the date of first filling or one year after the date of last check, or corresponding expiry date.

2.3.4 Permitted extinguish ants: AFFF, Viro 3, FX, G-TEC, powder or any other extinguishant homologated by FIA.

2.3.5 Extinguishing systems are recommended.

2.4 Driver’s safety equipment

2.4.1 Driver’s helmet must be in accordance with the FIA approved standards. (http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/38AE7C3868E519BCC12572FB00559173/$FILE/L25_standards_helmets.pdf?Openelement ). Homologation may be expired.

2.4.2 Driver clothing must be in accordance with the FIA No 8856-2000 homologation.  Underwear with the same homologation is strongly recommended.

2.4.3 Drivers seat must be FIA homologated. Homologation may be expired. Installation according to FIA Appendix J, Art. 253 p.16.

2.4.4 Usage of the HANS system is on the competitor’s own responsibility.

2.4.5 For events on circuits, the use of nets affixed to the safety roll-gage is mandatory. These nets must close up the window opening to the centre of the steering wheel. For other events, the use of nets is recommended.

2.5 Towing-eye

All cars must be equipped with a rear and front towing-eye for all events. It has to be clearly visible and painted in yellow, red or orange. These must not extend from the top view perimeter of the car. A contrastingly colored arrow must point to the towing-eye.

3. CAR

3.1 Body

3.1.1 Bodywork

3.1.1.1 Strengthening of the body, including through welding and adding material is prohibited, except as permitted in these rules.

3.1.1.2 The appearance of the car must be correct, without rust and damage.

3.1.1.3 Modification of the bare frames is prohibited.

3.1.1.4 It is prohibited to strengthen the body before front shock absorber housings and behind rear shock absorber housings in such way that will reduce the body’s ability to absorb the impact in case of collision.

3.1.1.5 Bumper is an element of the bodywork which is mandatory (inner safety beams must be removed). Additional bumpers, beams and any reinforcements are forbidden. The bumper is allowed to have four fastening points – 2 in the middle, support plates of maximum 100×100x2 mm in size, and one on each side. The maximum diameter of bolts is 10 mm. The strength of the material used for fastening must not exceed the original.

3.1.1.6 To reinforce the front panel, it is forbidden to use any additional beams and sheet material, the thickness of which exceeds the original thickness.

3.1.1.7 The use of underbody protection is allowed. Any part of underbody protection must not extend from the top view perimeter of the car.

3.1.1.8 It is allowed to use metal side protections on side sills, however these must not extend car’s top view perimeter and reach beyond the outer line of the wheels.

3.1.1.9 Side protections must not have any sharp and/or hooking ends or edges.

3.1.1.10 Moldings may be removed; in this case, the holes on the body must be sealed.

3.1.1.11 Except for the driver’s door, the material of doors, bonnets and boot lids is free, provided that the original outside shape is retained.

3.1.1.12 The bonnet hood must seal the bonnet on the windshield side tightly. There must be left any venting holes.

3.1.1.13 The original driver’s door must be retained trim may be removed.

3.1.1.14 The rear doors may be sealed shut by welding.

3.1.1.15 Both front doors must be easily opened as inside the car and also from outside the car.

3.1.1.16 The locking devices on the bonnet and boot lid must be removed. The hinges are free. Each lid must be fixed with quick release fasteners at four points, and opening from the outside must be possible.

3.1.1.17 An external rear-view mirror must be present on each side of the car. The reflecting surface of each of these rear-view mirrors must not be less than 85cm2.

3.1.1.18 The roof must be made of metal. A sunroof made from other material than metal must be removed and the remaining opening must be covered with metal. The metal plate must be glued to the roof and also be attached with rivets. The maximum distance between two nearest rivets is 5cm.

3.1.1.19 It is permitted to install one or two ventilation flaps in the roof of the car, in the following conditions:

  • Maximum height 10 cm.
  • Displacement contained within the front third of the roof.
  • Total maximum width of the openings: 50cm.

3.1.1.20 It is allowed to cut or groove the reversed edges of the wheel arch.

3.1.1.21 The material and shape of the mudguards are free, but the shape of the wheel arches must be retained. This does not imply that their original dimensions must be retained. The wheel must not be seen from above.

3.1.1.22 It is mandatory to fix the mud flaps behind all wheels, made of a flexible material and with a minimum thickness of 3 mm. The flaps must cover at least the whole width of the complete wheel. The flaps must extend to minimum 5 cm below the centre of the wheel, but must not touch the ground.

3.1.1.23 External lights may be removed and the resultant openings in the bodywork must be covered. Covers must conform to the original silhouette.

3.1.2 Aerodynamics

3.1.2.1 A front spoiler is allowed, however it must not extend outside of the car perimeter more than 15 cm when viewed from above.

3.1.2 Underbody aerodynamic parts are allowed.

3.1.2.3 Plastic thresholds and sills are allowed, however they must not reach beyond the outer line of wheels.

3.1.2.4 Wheel arch extensions and side curtains made from soft materials are allowed.

3.1.2.5 A rear spoiler is allowed, however it must not exceed the measurements of the car and the entire spoiler has to be lower than the roof line.

3.1.2.6 Hatchbacks are allowed to have rear wing or spoiler on the roof; however no part of this aero dynamical detail is allowed to extend higher than 15 cm from the car’s roofline.

3.1.2.7 Aerodynamic parts (excluding side curtains made of soft flexible material) are not allowed to touch the ground even if both tires from one side are deflated.

3.1.3 Cockpit

3.1.3.1 Dashboard may be removed. Due to removing dashboard there must not be any sharp angles or sharp-edged or pointed parts left in the cockpit.

3.1.3.2 The driver’s seat must be located entirely on one side of the other of the longitudinal centre line of the car.

3.1.3.3 The bulkheads separating the cockpit from the engine compartment must be liquid- and fireproof.

3.1.3.4 Cockpit ventilation air must not be taken from engine compartment.

3.1.3.5 Engine intake air must not be taken from cockpit.

3.1.3.6 It is obligatory to remove from cockpit: original seats, original belts, airbags, carpets, sunshields, flammable soundproofing materials and paddings (also from boot and engine compartment).

3.1.3.7 The driver door must be coated with original or non-flammable material which has a minimum thickness of 1 mm.

3.1.3.8. Unnecessary or unattached items are not allowed in the cockpit.

3.1.3.9 A rearview mirror (with a minimum reflecting area of 85cm2) is compulsory.

3.1.3.10 The original heating system may be removed, however it is recommended to keep it attached. The windshield must be transparent at all times.

3.1.4 Windows

3.1.4.1 The windscreen must be made of laminated glass.

3.1.4.2 It is allowed to replace the original rear and side window glasses with at least 2 mm thick polycarbonate or with other transparent material, which does not crack due to bending. All window glasses must be replaceable with original ones.

3.1.4.3 Cars with windscreen, which is damaged to such an extent that visibility is seriously impaired or that there is likelihood of their breaking further, may be disqualified from the race.

3.1.4.4 A sun strip and stickers on the upper part of the windscreen are authorized, on condition that it allows the driver to see the road signs.

3.1.4.5 When the original rear side windows are used it is allowed to tint windows to reduce the temperature inside cockpit. The original side windows must be covered with safety film.

3.2 Electrical system

3.2.1 Electronics & Electricity

3.2.1.1 The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is free

3.2.1.2 It is allowed to use electronical traction controls and launch control.

3.2.1.3 The make, capacity and location of the battery is free. The battery must be securely fixed and covered to avoid any short-circuiting or leaks.

3.2.1.4 The battery must be attached to the body using a metal seat and two metal clamps with an insulating covering, fixed to the floor by bolts ad nuts.

For attaching these clamps, bolts with diameter of at least 10mm must be used, and under each bolt, a counterplate at least 3mm thick and with a surface of at least 20cm2 beneath the metal of the bodywork.

3.2.1.5 Its location is free, however if in the cockpit it will only be possible behind the front seats and it must be covered by a leak proof plastic box, attached independently on the battery.(FIA VM Lisa J Art.255 p.10 and 255 p.11). In this case, the protection box must include an air intake with its exit outside the cockpit.

3.2.1.6 All electric wires must be installed in such a way as to prevent rupture and short-circuits.

3.2.1.7 The wires that are unnecessary can be removed and wires can also be added if necessary.

3.2.2 Lights

3.2.2.1 Each car must be fitted with minimum two red rear lights.

3.2.2.2 Rear tail lights bulbs must be 10 watts each.

3.2.2.3 In addition to rear lights there must be brake lights (may be installed in the same element with rear lights). Brake lights bulbs must be 21 watts each.

3.2.2.4 Rear lights equipped with LED are authorized.

3.2.2.5 It is allowed to use original rear lights and also non-original lights, mounted inside the cockpit on the rear window. Original and non-original lights can be used on the same time.

3.2.2.6 The external lights must be covered with a transparent film. If external lights are not in use they can also be covered with a non-transparent film.

3.2.2.7 Non-original rear lights must locate symmetrically towards transverse and longitudinal axis.

3.2.2.8 The minimum illuminated area of each non-original rear light must be 60 cm2.

3.2.2.9 The tail lights must light by turning on the ignition current.

3.2.3 General circuit breaker

3.2.3.1 General circuit breaker is compulsory. Electro-magnetic general circuit breakers are forbidden.

3.2.3.2 The general circuit breaker must stop the working engine and cut all electrical circuits.

3.2.3.3 The triggering system must be accessible by the driver in driving position and separately from the outside. Also when the driver is fastened with belts.

3.2.3.4 As for the outside, the triggering system of the circuit breaker will compulsorily be situated at the lower part of the windscreen mountings. It will be marked by a red spark in a white-edged blue triangle with the base of at least 12cm.

3.3 Engine

3.3.1 Engine

3.3.1.1 Otto-engines and turbocharged Otto-engines. In case of turbo charging, the nominal cubic-capacity will be multiplied by 1,7.

3.3.1.2 Only the mixture of air and petrol is permitted for the purpose of combustion in the engine. Any additives, incl. water, are forbidden.

3.3.1.3 The engine is free, but the engine (block) must be from the same producer as the car’s original bodywork and the engine must be located in its original engine compartment.

3.3.1.4 The injectors are free.

3.3.1.5 Throttle valves must be equipped with external springs to guarantee the closing of the throttle even if the original spring is broken.

3.3.1.6 Engines with altered capacity are allowed, in case the cubic capacity does not exceed 2.5 per cent of the nominal cubic capacity.

3.3.1.7 For crankcase ventilation a minimum 2-litre oil tank is required, eliminating the leakage of oil onto the track regardless of the position of the car (this does not apply to cars with original inlet system, where the ventilation is connected with inlet trumpets.

3.3.2 Fuel and exhaust system

3.3.2.1 The fuel pump is free. It must be isolated from the cockpit by liquid resistant wall.

3.3.2.2 All the fuel pumps must operate only when the engine is running, or during the starting process.

3.3.2.3 There must be no connections on the lines situated in the cockpit. In places where pipe is fed through the body shell, sealing should be provided to eliminate friction of the pipes.

3.3.2.4 If a non-original tank is fitted, it must be installed in accordance with the FIA Appendix J Art. 252 p.9.6 and Art. 253 p.14.

3.3.2.5 The tank, the catch tank, the pumps and all component of the fuel feed system shall be located at least 30cm from from the body shell in both lateral and longitudinal directions, outside the driver’s compartment.

3.3.2.6 If the original tank is not in its original location, it must be fitted with at least 4 bolts. Fixing bolts must have a minimum diameter of M8 and a minimum quality of 8.8 (ISO standard).

3.3.2.7 In all cases, the tank, including the filler pipe must be isolated by a firewall or by a container, both of which shall be flameproof and fire-resistant, preventing any fuel from infiltrating the cockpit and avoiding any contact with the exhaust pipes.

3.3.2.8 The fuel tank, including the filler pipe must not be installed into the engine compartment.

3.3.2.9 The cap of the tank must not protrude beyond the bodywork and must also be leak proof.

3.3.2.10 It is mandatory to have the vent fitted with a backflow valve. The vent must be guided out of the body shell.

3.4 Undercarriage

3.4.1 Axles and suspension

3.4.1.1 Shock absorbers and springs are free.

3.4.1.2 Active suspension is prohibited.

3.4.1.3 The sleeves of suspension and undercarriage are free.

3.4.1.4 The original anchorage points of axle beam may be reinforced, however through strengthening and addition of material the original location of anchorage points of axle beam must not be changed.

3.4.2 Brakes

3.4.2.1 It is allowed to use non-original brake system parts, but there must be a double circuit operated by the same pedal and complying with the following: the pedal shall normally control all the wheels.

3.4.2.2 It is allowed to use hydraulic-handbrake. The original parking brake may be removed.

3.4.2.3 Brake booster may be removed.

3.4.2.4 Anti-lock braking systems are not permitted.

3.4.2.5 Fluid tanks are forbidden inside the cockpit.

3.4.3 Wheels and tires

3.4.3.1 Wheels are free. Wheel fixation by bolts may be freely changed to fixations by pins and nuts.

3.4.3.2 Only tires manufactured by Master are allowed according to the Supplementary regulations.

3.4.3.3 Wheels must not extend outside from wheel arches and/or touch them.

3.4.4 Steering, steering column

3.4.4.1 Anti- theft devices must be removed.

3.4.4.2 The size and type of the steering wheel is free, the quick release mechanism is allowed.

3.4.4.3 The steering system and its position is free. Only mechanical steering of the wheels is permitted.

3.5 Exhaust system and silencer

3.5.1 The exhaust system is free. Exhaust gas may only exit at the end of the system

3.5.2 A limit of 100 dB is imposed for all cars. The noise will be measured in accordance with the FIA noise measuring procedure using a sonometer regulated at „A“ and „SLOW“, placed at an angle of 45o to and a distance of 50cm from the exhaust outlet, with the car’s engine running at 3500 rpm.

3.5.3 The exit of the exhaust pipe must be situated within the perimeter of the car.

3.6 Transmission

3.6.1 Differencial locks and locking techniques are allowed.

3.6.2 Gearbox is free.

3.6.3 It is allowed to remake 2WD car in to 4WD car.

3.7 Competition numbers and advertising on cars.

3.7.1 The competition numbers for cars will be given by Erki Sport MTÜ.

3.7.2 The competition numbers must be located on both rear side window and on the right top side of the windscreen.

3.7.3 A sticker „superkross.ee“ is obligatory on the left side in the top of the windscreen and a sticker with logo of „Erki Sport“ is obligatory in the middle on the top of the windscreen. Both stickers will be given by Erki Sport MTÜ.

3.7.4 The organizer may book surface on the car for other compulsory advertisements with Supplementary regulations.

3.7.5 Any advertisement on the car must not be in conflict with legislation and/or ethical standards.

3.8 Technical inspection and changes

3.8.1 If any original construction of the car must be modified in order to secure its reliability and safety and in case such modifications contradict these technical requirements, such modifications may be made with the approval and written permission of the board of the Superkross Technical Committee, which includes the description of the nature and extent of the respective modifications, and on the condition that safety is not jeopardized.

3.8.2 Any costs incurred by the driver in connection with proving the conformity of the car to Technical Requirements, if it is done at the request of the Technical Committee, shall be covered by the driver. Fuel conformity inspection shall take place only at the initiative of the Technical Committee.

3.8.3 If serious violations are discovered during the season, all the results achieved during the season shall be cancelled. The following violation shall be considered a serious violation and bring about annulment of results: higher than allowed cubic capacity.

3.8.4 If the Technical Committee of Superkross is convinced that any construction of the car is unreliable and dangerous, they have right to demand the driver to make modifications in respective constructions.
